The Role:

As a Principal Risk Specialist in Capital One's Business Cards & Payments organization, you will work with business partners to identify, manage, and mitigate risk to Capital One. Event Managers at Capital One are highly motivated Risk professionals with excellent organizational, project management and communication skills. In this role, you will lead, support and manage work within the BC&P Event Management team, with a high level of exposure to senior leaders. You will partner with colleagues across legal, compliance, finance, US Card Governance and the business to deliver results that have a direct impact on customer experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Be the Beacon of the Risk Event and Issue Management process from anomaly identification through issue / event closure while adhering to US Card Governance & Enterprise Risk Management standards / requirements

  • Establish / Document processes / playbooks to mitigate risk to the company and ensure optimal customer outcomes

  • Partner effectively with Legal, Compliance and other teams to understand exposure from breakdowns and control inefficiencies to provide guidance to the business

  • Drive collaboration with the business on implementing / improving their Well Managed Journey

  • Influence the streamlining of interactions with business operations and accountable executives to provide progress updates, timely escalation of obstacles, and process improvement opportunities

  • Coordinate, influence and negotiate priorities with teams to ensure event goals/timelines are met; escalate when appropriate

  • Gain a deep understanding of corporate risk management standards and utilize all Risk Management tools, playbooks and systems

  • Establish and maintain positive working relationship with business partners, compliance advisors, and other risk associates

  • Communicate highly complex Events & Issues in an easily understood format while providing recommendations to on containment, recovery, and remediation

  • Other risk efforts, including but not limited to: Audit & Exams support, hosting Office Hours with business, and support the Business on everyday Risk Management area

  • Analyze data to proactively identify themes in all aspects of issue/event management process including but not limited to root cause and impact of anomalies, issues, and events to provide the business with actionable insights

  • Stay current on the changing regulatory environment and understand the impacts to your businesses

  • Participate in risk forums and contribute to continuous improvement of risk management practices

  • Experience in Risk Event and Issue Management

  • Innovate frequently, offers ideas regularly, likes to brainstorm and solve problems

  • Acts with the highest levels of integrity in all circumstances and brings commitment to being well-managed in all dimensions of work

Basic Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of risk management experience

  • At least 2 years of process management or project management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience

  • 2 years of compliance experience

  • 2 years of Agile or Design Thinking experience

  • Certified Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) or Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM)

  • Lean, Agile, Six Sigma, Business Process Management or Project Management Certification

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $117,300 - $133,900 for Principal Risk Specialist

Richmond, VA: $106,700 - $121,700 for Principal Risk Specialist

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
