Job Title: Assistant Controller Department: Finance Gaming License: Class III FLSA Status: Exempt Reports To: Accounting Director Summary Under the direct supervision of the Accounting Director, assists in the management of the day-to-day operations of Payroll, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Revenue Audit functions. Supervisory Responsibilities Assists the Accounting Director with the management of the Accounting Manager and the Casino Audit Manager who supervise staff in the Finance Department. Assists in the management of the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Fosters a positive work environment and encourages professional development among team members. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Maintains complete confidentiality at all times. Safeguards all casino assets. Primarily responsible to the Accounting Director for timely and accurate generation of all financial information related to the financial functions, operations analysis and financial statement reporting for the organization, including but not limited to daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual information. Ensures compliance with internal controls as required by the Community, state and federal agencies. Assigns, coordinates, schedules, and reviews the work of staff and any other department duties as assigned. Assists with the presentation for budgeting and forecasting models relating to but not limited to Payroll/FTE reporting. Assists with processing bi-weekly Payroll. Files Quarterly Withholding Forms for Federal and State (Form 941 and A1-QRT) Files Employer's Annual Information Return of Tip Income and Allocated Tips (IRS Form 8027) Reviews and approves customer contracts for the establishment of payment terms and conditions. Responsible to review and assure the accuracy of all assigned balance sheet accounts including guest ledger, hotel receivables along with responding to customer credit card chargeback queries. Assists with implementing and maintaining incentive programs comprehensive of payment calculations following company policy including but not limited to Resort Sales Incentive & Player Development Incentive programs. Makes recommendations on suggested improvements in casino financial operations compared to industry-wide trends and best practices. Hires and trains Tribal Members consistent with the casino's Community and Indian Preference guidelines. Responsible for maintaining up-to-date knowledge of Credit Card Compliance requirements commonly known as PCI (Payment Card Industry) Compliance by attending training provided by Casino Arizona/Talking Stick Resort, at least once a year or more if required by management. Signature verification of course attendance will be required. Responsible for the enforcement of PCI (Payment Card Industry) Compliance regulations to protect cardholder data and adhere to the standards to protect the guests' private card information. This includes, but is not limited to, observing and reporting inappropriate card handling activity, either of customers or by employees, as defined by PCI. Responsible for the enforcement of all applicable regulations, under the code of Federal Regulations, Title 31, Chapter X, as it pertains to this position. This includes, but is not limited to, observing and reporting suspicious activity, of either customers or employees, as defined in the Code of Federal Regulations. Responsible for maintaining up-to-date knowledge of all applicable regulations under the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 31, Chapter X, by attending Title 31/Anti-Money Laundering training, provided by Casino Arizona/Talking Stick Resort, at least once a year or more, if required by management and outlined in the Title 31 Minimum Internal Controls. Education and/or Experience Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) in Accounting required; advanced degree or CPA a plus; minimum 5 years supervisory experience in a professional accounting environment required; experience equivalent to 5 years fulltime professional level accounting work with experience in financial operations in the casino industry required. Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have excellent PC skills and broad knowledge of current financial and accounting systems, database software, payroll systems, spreadsheet and word processing software. Other Qualifications Must have a good knowledge of general accounting theories, principles and practices; solid working knowledge of general budgeting principles and practices; skilled at establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with state, federal and community officials and managers. Must be skilled in understanding and applying complex rules, regulations, procedures and guidelines. Must have strong analytical skills and be able to apply excellent problem solving techniques. Must have good people management and communication skills and ability to motivate others. Language S kills Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
